How did these clay objects sculpture themselves?

The answers include one by the Wisconsin Geological Survey, a Chippewa Legend, and several by amateurs we have talked to.

According to Chippewa legend this clay sculpture was made by a Chippewa god who gave each one a little soul. According to the Wisconsin Geological Survey they began around fossil remains some 20,000 years ago in what is now Lake Superior. The patterns are caused by the surroundings and undergrounnd circulating water. The main ingredients are clay, sand, and silt hardened by lime and iron oxide.

According to Byron and Dorothy Buckeridge who collected them for 25 years clay stores energy and used it with the help of glacier pressure to sculpture itself into beauty and humor. There are no busts of Shakespeare but clay energy sculptured one. There are no statutes of Henry VIII & His Six Wives, Jimmy Durante, Jackie at the Inaugural Ball, Dick Meet Mao but clay energy created them. Clay as a sculptor often failed just like human sculptors.

The "Nothing Like it in New York!" collection of clay that sculptured itself 20,000 years ago into beauty and humor unimagined by Picasso and Calder awaits a modest bid.
